Second person dies from flesh-eating bacteria contracted in Harvey floodwaters

A second person in Texas has died from a flesh-eating bacterial infection contracted in the floodwaters from Hurricane Harvey, according to a Texas health department statement.

Josue Zurita, 31, died Oct. 16 after being hospitalized in Galveston County, Texas, for an infection in a wound on his arm. Zurita was identified by ABC News.

Zurita had been working to repair homes damaged by the hurricane and contracted an infection called necrotizing fasciitis, according to the release. "It's most likely this person's infection occurred when bacteria from Harvey debris or floodwater entered his body through a wound or cut," said Galveston County Local Health Authority Philip Keiser.

A 77-year-old Houston woman died last monthfrom the same bacteria that killed Zurita, after sustaining cuts on her body in a fall in a flooded house.
